Cincinnati’s Barefoot Aquired by BBDO

Yesterday Cincinnati agency Barefoot made a press release announcing that they have been acquired by New York-based BBDO. Doug Worple, Barefoot’s Founding Partner and Chief Creative Officer will stay on as the head of Barefoot and join the board of Proximity (which is apparently part of BBDO). BBDO has 287 offices in 77 countries is owned by the giant holding company Omnicom Group.

I think I got that right. Following all of the “who owns who” of the media and advertising world can get a little confusing. I think it means Barefoot and Budweiser are now owned by the same company.

Project Launch: The Learning Kitchen

The Learning Kitchen is cooking school and kitchen boutique that will be opening in West Chester, Ohio on July 19, 2008. They will be open to the public and with hand-ons and demonstration classes by local and celebrity chefs. They also will have a high-end kitchen boutique with fancy kitchen gadgets and professional cookware that will make any food geek salivate.

I had the opportunity to help develop their web site, coding all of the pages including a class calendar and registration, mailing lists and integration with their point-of-sale system. It was a fun project and I can’t wait to get over there and try some classes.

Google Street View Rolls Out Big for Cincinnati

This week I saw a blog post by Morris Tsai that talked about how Google Street View has rolled out in a big way around Cincinnati. I decided to take it for a spin and I was blown away by how comprehensive the coverage is. When I lived in Berkeley (not super far from the Google hive-mind) I got to see the major streets in my neighborhood covered but now Google has photos of obscure side streets and rural areas around Cincinnati available. You can even see my mother-in-law’s house out in the middle of farm country by the Indiana border. It looks like the coverage of mid-sized U.S. cities has gotten pretty good across the board.

Oh and yes my house is in there. Here is the observatory near my house if you want to wander my neighborhood.

Mark Celsor Joins ShareThis as Interactive Lead Developer

Mark Celsor will be joining the team at ShareThis next week as Interactive Lead Developer. Mark is an Internet marketing technology expert and the famed author of official sounding, 3rd person, press releases about himself, LOL.

ShareThis is internet startup with offices in Cincinnati and San Francisco. Their flagship product is a widget that lets web site visitors easily send pages to their friends or post pages to web services like Facebook and del.icio.us. Each month their widget has over 100 million views and over 26 million unique users. There’ve also recently had a bunch of press on tech news sites like CNET, Wired, Mashable and GigaOM with news of their series B funding.

I’ll be working to help design and develop user interfaces for ShareThis. I’m really excited about working with these folks. It’s really great to see a company like this taking off here in Cincinnati. Did I mention that I’ll be able to bike/walk to work? Gotta love that!
